Public officers dismissed for indiscipline, above 45 years

The then Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology recorded the highest number of retirements, when 21 officers were forced to retire.  Eighteen were from D4 level, 1 from D1 level and two from D1 level scales.

In response to a question by Ngami District legislature, Taolo Habano who wanted to know the number of public officers at level D scale and above dismissed or given forced retirement last year, Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Lesego Motsumi explained:  'Ten officers were dismissed on disciplinary grounds in accordance with Section 33 of the Public Service Act, whilst 29 were retired in line with Section 15 (3) of the Public Service Act which gives the Appointing Authority the discretionary powers to retire an officer who has attained the age of 45,' he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Lands and Housing, Nonofo Molefhi said he should be able to make a decision on whether or not to declare Tutume a Planning Area by March 2010.  He said the Central District Council has done preparatory work that will facilitate an informed decision, and so far the council has had consultations with communities in Tutume area.

Molefhi was responding to a question from area member of parliament Edwin Batshu, who wanted to know why the process has taken so long, a delay he said, that denies the village some meaningful development.
