Mukokomani disciaplinary hearing set for this weekend

The elections became controversial when Lekang Mukokomani stood against Tebogo Matlhogonolo, contrary to the party caucus agreement.

He made the situation worse by nominating an opposition councillor to deputise him. Mukokomani told Mmegi in an interview this week that he will be honest to the leadership of the party during the hearing. 'I will be honest to myself, to the electorate and the leadership of the party. I will tell them the truth, nothing else but the truth. I will tell them what we discussed with my colleagues during our caucus, prior to the elections.  I will not be my own judge but the leadership,' he said.

Mukokomani, who is also a councillor for Ikageleng Phase Two, said it will not be a wise move by the leadership to expel him from the party because there are no reasons that can influence them to take such drastic decision. He mentioned that he told the leadership to probe whether or not he had deliberately violated the constitution of the party and they must establish if the resolution of the caucus was honoured by all councillors or not.

'The investigations should have commenced by finding out the discussions of the caucus and the agreements.  This matter could have long been resolved but it was stalled by some people who wanted to fulfil their interests. Such people don't realise that the situation will have an effect on the party,' says Mukokomani.

He mentioned that he has been loyal to the party despite the two months suspension from the party that he is undergoing. He pointed out that his performance and hard work for the party is proved by the margin that he pulled during the October polls, of more than 200. He explained that if he did not care about the BDP he could have left it to join another political party but he remained loyal.

Sesame South ward councillor, Godfrey Mbaiwa said they want to bury the hatchet and they are prepared to work with Mukokomani. He noted that infighting amongst them did not mean they are enemies.

'Even in a family setup, people fight but in the end they reconcile. That is exactly what we want to see happening. We cannot have people thinking the same way all the time, if that happens, then something is wrong. Sometimes we should differ. It is a sign of maturity,' Mbaiwa said.

He pointed out that he feels that Mukokomani should be forgiven because if not the move will open old wounds. Mbaiwa said he does not advocate for Mukokomani to be expelled from the party. He added that he is looking forward to restoration within the BDP.

On his part, Bontleng ward councillor, Tshiamo Ikaneng said he is fine with any decision that the leadership will take on tomorrow. He said Mukokomani damaged the image of the BDP when he nominated a BCP councillor as the deputy mayor.  Ikaneng mentioned that they did not expect Mukokomani to pull such a stunt. He added that the mayor should have been exemplary.
