Zambian sports minister visits Botswana

Kgathi said this week that the two countries have a long standing relationship in many fronts. “Botswana and Zambia have excellent bi-lateral relations. The historic ties of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation continue to grow both in depth and breadth.  This visit will enhance our cooperation in the fields of sport and youth development,” he said. He said he is particularly delighted that as ministers responsible for sport and youth development, they have the opportunity to exchange views and experiences.

“There can be no doubt that as ministers responsible for sport we have a lot to discuss bilaterally as well as exchange views on regional and international matters concerning sport,” Kgathi said.

He pointed out that Zambia has had a Ministry of Sport, Youth and Child Development for a long time while his ministry is only three years old. Hence, he has a lot to learn from Zambia. He added that Botswana is particularly anxious to learn the secret of success from Zambia which has always excelled in sport especially football.

Kgathi congratulated the Chipungu for the brilliant display of the Zambian national at this year’s Orange Africa Cup of Nations in Angola. Chipolopolo reached the quarterfinals of the competition where they were knocked out by Nigeria through penalty shoot-outs in a match, which Zambia dominated.

Chipungu thanked Kgathi and his ministry for the invitation and added that Zambia will always be willing to assist Botswana on matters of sport and youth.
