BVF congress to confirm Mascom sponsorship

BVF public relations officer, Godfrey Mudongo said there would be two items on the agenda of the congress at Botsalo Hotel. The first will be the Mascom contract which affiliates will be asked to endorse. “You see, we do not want to impose ourselves on our affiliates. Some of the clauses in the contract will be binding and we do not want a situation where anyone would bring the league into disrepute,” he said.

Though he did not elaborate, Mudongo said the other item on the agenda is the fine-tuning of the BVF Strategic Plan to conform with that of the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC).

Meanwhile, publicity secretary of Francistown Diphatsa, Bapoga Nshakazhogwe said clubs welcome the new sponsorship deal. “We are looking forward to good news at the congress. I am expecting something good to come out of the deal with Mascom,” Nshakazhogwe said.

He added that his club has already beefed up the squad in readiness for the coming season. Diphatsa have acquired the services of Odirile Sibanda, a national team player who is currently employed by BNSC to coordinate their sports development activities in Francistown and surrounding areas. Sibanda is an outside hitter. “Diphatsa is a big team in Botswana and to have acquired the services of such a player (Sibanda) is a big bonus,” Nshakazhogwe said.

Though he was satisfied with the team’s performance last year, he conceded that they could not win any silverware. The club finished a distant fourth in the Capital Motors tournament.
