LEA launches IMIS to improve operations

LEA Chief Executive Officer, Dr Tebogo Matome said the need for this system was necessitated by the realisation that the organisation carried out most of its functions manually where there were disparate systems.

'They were not integrated and did not talk to each other,' he said.

The project started in 2008 with the primary objective of extensively examining existing work processes, gathering data, and management information process so as to produce a detailed Statement of User Requirement which would form the basis for the development of a management information system that can address LEA's problems. Financed by the Ministry of Trade, the new system that wholly came to live on November 22 entails Finance Management System, Human Resource Management System, Payroll Management System, Performance Management System, Business Intelligence and the enhancement of the Enterprise Development Management System. This is expected to allow easy access of shared data within the LEA business and also improve speed and efficiency.

The IMIS will be a major source of information and support needed to promote effective decision-making by managers.

'It will also improve management's performance and financial reporting through real-time reporting and a clearer picture of expenditure against budget or quarterly performance of our SMMEs, which then improves customer relationship management,' Matome said.

The project identified and engaged ICL Botswana to provide the required project management direction and guidance for the implementation of the envisaged system.

It further identified and engaged Software Application and Information Solutions (SAiS) to implement the required systems.

Matome applauded the parties involved in the project as it has been successfully completed on schedule and on budget of around P43 million.
