BVF prepares to host Zone VI Championships

BVF vice president (administration), George Keotsene said hosting such a tournament will gauge their preparedness to organise bigger events in future. He said the preliminary rounds will be played in Otse before action moves to Lobatse. He explained that as hosts, Botswana has the privilege of fielding more teams.

This year's competition has attracted 25 teams from seven countries. There will be 13 men and 12 women's teams, including Kutlwano, who are the defending champions in both categories. Besides the two Kutlwano sides, Botswana will field Diphatsa, BDF VI and Police in the men category and Mafolofolo and Kalavango in the women competition.

Teams are expected to arrive in Gaborone on Sunday where a technical meeting will be held before the competition kicks-off. Keotsene said they have not come up with the format of play as some clubs have a tendency of confirming participation then failing to turn up. Clubs expected to take part from other countries are: AAM Associacao men and women (Mozambique), Khomas Nampol and National Defence Force (NDF) from Namibia, Jewel Stars, Dolphins, Bulldogs and Hawks Volleyball Club (Zimbabwe), Red Skins, Lesotho Defence Force and LMPS (Lesotho). South Africa will only send women teams - University of Western Cape and Super Kids.

Zambia who had earlier confirmed participation pulled out on Monday.
