Nkabiti returns to the ring

The 'Raging Bull' who has been training in Botswana after cutting ties with his Johannesburg stable is optimistic of a third successive win in the professional ranks having won two bouts through a knock-out last year.

The former national team boxer left for South Africa yesterday for final preparations. 'I never want to underrate any of my opponents but I have faith in myself. This is one fight that can open doors for me and I am ready for anything that he (Rama) will be throwing at me,' Nkabiti said.

The boxer explained that this is a non-title bout but if he wins, it might help him secure a title fight next April.

He said that the break he took to focus on his business interests will not impact negatively on his performance.

Nkabiti told Mmegi Sport that he believed Dintwa Sloca and Larona Francis had done a good job preparing him for the fight that could effectively change his career.

The Kanye-born boxer was a popular figure in the local sporting fraternity before he turned professional. Very little has been heard of him since he decided to relocate to South Africa but he still insists he has what it takes to make it big in the professional ranks.

'I am still that smart fighter who wins fights through knock-outs. The only difference is that I have been away from local fans. One reason for my return was to be close to them. In future, they could see me fighting at home and then they would remember what type of boxer I am,' Nkabiti said.

Although he no longer stays in South Africa, Nkabiti stated that there is still a possibility of him returning there especially if he wins on Saturday. He said that he would be training with a certain stable while preparing for the bout and would only weigh his options after the fight.

'If I do not sign with any stable after this fight, I have no problem coming back home to prepare for other fights here. I will only travel outside the country for competitions. I am happy with the way I have progressed and I do not regret my decision to turn professional. I have learnt a lot in South Africa and I know what is needed to prepare for professional fights,' he said.
