Bobirwa Sub-Council launch in March 2011

The official launch is mean to publicise the Sub-District and give various departments the chance to exhibit their processes and services. Already, there is a Bobirwa sub-council chaired by Ishmael Legwaila who said that committees from local and central government have been put in place to prepare for the launch.

He said the government's drive to establish sub-councils in the country is good for service delivery because it brings services closer to the people. Currently the on-going development projects in Bobirwa are the construction of Mmadinare Senior Secondary School, Thune dam, Dikgatlhong dam, Bobonong-Tsetsebjwe road, Motloutse bridge in Motlhabaneng and Thune bridge.

Legwaila said Mmadinare Senior Secondary School is almost complete and is scheduled to start admitting students next month.

He stated that these projects are meant to uplift the socio-economic status of Bobirwa people through the creation of short-term employment opportunities.

He said the submission and dispatch of youth development fund was closed in March and the procurement for the eight approved projects in the Sub-District is still going on.

The third cycle of the youth development fund took off in September with business creation workshops conducted both in Mmadinare and Bobonong. A total of 230 youth from Bobirwa attended the workshop. Legwaila said that the sub-council is working hard albeit with a limited budget.

He said they were allocated P85.6 million and they had already exhausted P43 million by November. 'We are likely to be facing a difficult financial situation. On average the council spends P4.1 million a month on recurrent account.

The income generated by the council as at November 2010 is P3.5 million with the largest income earner being domestic water fees followed by staff housing rents and Matimela fund,' he said.
