Choppies spread wings in SA

A spokesperson of Rustenburg Municipality, Olga Chauke, commended Choppies during the official opening of Choppies Rustenburg last weekend.

Chauke praised the supermarket for 'creating not less than 200 full-time job opportunities and 27 part-time jobs for South Africans'.  'The opening of the store couldn't have come at a better time,' she said.

'Those employed will be able to put bread on their tables in time for Christmas. You are therefore playing the role of a lifesaver!'

Choppies was also applauded for appointing a 100 percent black-owned South African company, Tau Ya Phoka, for its marketing in South Africa, as well as for giving to the needy in that country's North West Province.

Chauke  hailed Choppies' penetration of the South African market as a good neighbourly initiative that 'strengthens South Africa's relations with the Republic of Botswana as our long-time neighbour from the days of the struggle for freedom.'

Choppies has so far opened nine shops in South Africa, eight of which are in the North West Province while the ninth is in Gauteng.

South Africa's Deputy High Commissioner to Botswana, Mathipu Malema, graced the occasion with her presence, as did the Choppies Group CEO, Ram Ottupath.
