Mother of all gigs promises to rock

The annual Mafikeng Sixties Party is back this year and promises to be bigger and better since it will run for three days.

The three-day entertainment extravaganza will offer jazz, house, hip-hop, Afro-pop and kwaito.

The event, in its 13th year, starts on Friday December 3 at Red Sox in Mafikeng. DJs Fistaz, T-bo Touch, China and Silly Bean will be spinning the discs.

The main event will be held on Saturday at Monare Farm just outside Mafikeng and will feature US DJ Alix Alvarez.

DJs to spin discs on Saturday include Cleo, Durban's Finest, C'Ndo, Glen Lewis, Oskido, Tira and Mthi among others.

The extravaganza ends on Sunday with a Jazzy session at Lotlamoreng Dam, where bands from the area will have a chance be afforded an opportunity to rub shoulders with big artists.

The line-up includes Mmabana Jazz band, Bhudaza, Jaziel Brothers, HHP, Malaika, Lesego, Mo Molemi and Lucas Senyato. Show organiser Seleko Monare said: 'The show this year will be at Monare Farm and we are giving people an opportunity to bring their tents and caravans.'

Monare said the event would also give the city an opportunity to unify its residents and people from neighbouring countries to celebrate South Africa's rich cultural heritage. The Saturday event will start at 6pm and tickets are available at Musica. (Sowetan)
