BOKA resumes holiday training programme

The training programme targets karatekas between the ages of 7-18. It starts at the Ditshupo Hall in Gaborone this weekend. BOKA president, Gift Nkwe said the development programme is meant for children from across the country.

He said they were forced to put the programme on hold for two years due to limited resources, and the unavailability of instructors and facilitators.

This month, BOKA expects 200 participants drawn from clubs in Gaborone and Francistown to attend the training.

Gaborone will provide 150 karatekas while 50 will come from clubs in Francistown and surrounding areas.  Six facilitators and 20 chief instructors are expected to conduct theory and practical sessions.

'We had to mobilise a large number of facilitators and instructors to ensure that we have the needed resources,' Nkwe said.

Mohammed Ali Husan, Thato Malunga and Kevin Groth who represented Botswana at the World Karate Federation Championships will be among the 200 participants. The three karatekas will emerge with green belts if they are successful at the end of the programme.

BOKA spokesperson, Jerry Ditlhong explained that focus will be on basics and techniques on kumite and kata. He said BOKA has arranged the training programme after raising funds.

'We kept on saving and raising funds. We have arranged transport for participants travelling from Francistown,' he said.
