Eve concert and Orange donates to CBOs

After the excitement of hosting a successful live music concert which saw over 4000 people attending, Urban Legends Against AIDS has drawn to a successful close and handed over P700 000 for disbursement in donated funds.

The audited figures raised through the Urban Legends Against AIDS concert were presented by Mr Thomas Chitambo a partner at Ernest and Young. Orange Botswana Chief Executive Officer, Elizabeth Badang presented a cheque to the Chairperson of Tebelopele, Dr Boga Fidzani.

Handing over the cheque which would be divided amoung ten organizations in the country depending on their needs, Badang noted with regret that they had not identified Community Based Organisations (CBO)in the Kgalagadi district, but their partnership with Tebelopele will lead to future projects which will benefit that region, she said.

She said as promised, the funds will be used to address the needs of CBOs which they have noted throughout Botswana. On their partnership with Health Ministry, Tebelopele and NACA, they have identified projects with needs ranging from transportation, accommodation facilities to school equipment in districts such as Ghanzi, Okavango, North East, Central, Kweneng, South East among others.

In order to reach more CBOs and ensure that all the projects receive the help they required, they decided to add funds to the initial total collected from the ticket sales so that the it amounted to P700 000.00. Though this is an estimated figure requested by CBOs, the actual items may have variable costs, said Badang. It is expected that Tebelopele will spearhead the logistical aspects of the distribution of the money.

Giving a word of appreciation, deputy coordinator of NACA, Golekanye Setumo, acknowledged all those who bought the tickets to the Eve concert. Setumo stressed that were it not for the sponsors and general public, it would not have been possible to donate such an amount for the CBOs.
