BHC encourages a healthy living

These were the guiding words at the Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) Wellness Expo 2010 last Friday. Guest speaker, Oggie Maruapula, who is also a BHC board member encouraged people to change their habits in relation to what they eat, emphasising that health is something that concerns everyone.

'Have a purposeful life while you are still alive.  There is no need for rigidity in life; in life you must relax, you must have a day for relaxing and be natural,' emphasised Maruapula.

He urged BHC employees to embrace the spirit of wellness so that it becomes a supportive arm in productivity. He said BHC is challenged with having to build about 29 000 houses by the end of NDP 10, noting that if employees are not well then the corporation will not be able to carry out its mandate.

He added that the biggest problem in BHC is that there is poor financial planning, noting that there is need for a financial advisor. Earlier on, when reflecting on the theme: 'Be well and live longer,' Reverend Aaron said being well starts with an individual person.

'If we are to be well and live longer, we need to make up our minds now,' said the reverend. He emphasised that people should stop smoking and drinking, noting that if they do not do that they will be taking their lives to the grave.

He also advised people to choose their diet wisely, just like the biblical Daniel.   He said people should make resolutions to change their lifestyles.
