A night of traditional music and tswana cuisine

And as chief executive officers (CEOs) from various local companies and the urban crowd gathered at the P250 event, Tswana cuisine was served as the cherry on top.

Seswaa, serobe, dikgobe, lerotse, Tswana chicken, and morogo, were all served in one plate to give one a little bit of this and that from the wide variety of food that Botswana is endowed with.  The impressive crowd that turned up for the night was rather surprising considering that it was a bit chilly and the rains that had been pouring, had been threatening to wreak havoc once again that evening.

There was a twist in the tale on the night though, as Amarula and red wine bottles stood on guests tables tantalising their taste buds.  Before long, the largely traditional gathering found themselves yielding to the Amarula and red wine temptations.

Chibuku, the commercial traditional brew, was the traditional beer of the night, with the MC of the evening, Comfort Ramatebele of Gabz FM, who does not take this drink normally, somehow had the joy to show off with chibuku.

First he joined the event organiser, Losika Luzboy Seboni, who was the first to open his Chibuku carton and have a sip. Later Ramatebele would take an unopened chibuku, demonstrate how it is shaken, opened and imbibed.

However Folk music player Setampore ignored the MC when he invited him to come and have a sip of the chibuku, minutes after the gifted guitarist had finished his delightful set.

It was one night that silently appealed to the crowd to be themselves; to be natural in their taste for food, drinks, music and dress, and the guests seemed to love that.

When Tswana music giants such as Stampore, Dikakapa, Culture Spears, Shumba Ratshega, as well as Kgalagadi traditional dance troupe, Ina legolo, and Kalanga group, Chilecheche Ngwao, had done their thing, the night soon transformed into a cultural revival as the guests clapped, danced and sang to their favourite tunes.

Then Culture Spears had to give the guests a double show after the group was asked to perform two hits from their Ekentolo projects, Chika and Re sia le Matebele.  Once Magdeline and her girls had softened to the crowd, it was disco now with many rejoicing that they got more than what they had bargained for.
