AON golf event attracts 20 players

This year, the tournament used the Two-Ball-Better-Ball format where golfers participate in pairs and the result is recorded from the partner with the highest score. The format saw seniors and juniors playing alongside one another.

National team players could not travel to the copper-nickel town for the tournament due to commitments.

Organisers of the event told Sport Monitor that the browns, as the Greens at the Selebi-Phikwe course are popularly known, were very good on the day, despite the fact that play was delayed for an hour due to rainfall.

The golfers welcomed the rains because it reduced the heat.

At the end of the 18-hole event, the team of  S. Koka and P. Kazay  was crowned the winner with 47 points. I. Madupe and A. Dunlop were second with 45 points after beating S. Goteti and J. Hughes and O Chinya and S. Lungu on count-back.

I. Mudupe and her teammate won the women's competition.

Meanwhile, AON's marketing and communications manager, Monty Robert, said their  goal globally and locally is to leverage their brand through supporting sport. 'We are premier sponsors of Manchester United, this signifies our commitment in terms of sports sponsorship and development. The number one brand in terms of sports fraternity has put trust in us and we want to do the same in Botswana. We are starting a comprehensive plan to support golf and other sporting codes especially the development of women golf,' he said at the prize giving ceremony on Saturday evening.
