Chinese youth forge ties with Batswana

The Chinese delegation, which is led by the vice-president of the Beijing Youth Federation (BYF) Deng Yaping, arrived on Monday and was treated to a welcoming dinner at Bull & Bush Restaurant in Gaborone.

The relations were formalised yesterday when BYF and BNYC signed a Memorandum of Agreement at Sedibeng Lodge. BNYC expects to benefit financially from what the visitors say is the first such agreement with any youth organisation outside China.

The purpose of the partnership is to, among others, strengthen cultural cooperation and exchange between the two parties based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefits.

Constant exchange visits between the youth of Botswana and China for the sharing of best practices on projects are also envisaged under the partnership.

According to the agreement, details of topics of discussion, visiting times and members of delegation will be discussed later.

The Chinese delegation is scheduled to visit Maun tomorrow. After a courtesy call on the Minister of Youth, Shaw Kgathi, the delegation yesterday toured the National Museum and Art Gallery and the new-look Sir Seretse Khama Airport, which was constructed by Chinese company Synohydro.
