New BDP youth leaders accused of financial fiddling

In their first meeting held on August 11, three of the four teams failed to account for funds they had claimed during the period July-August financial period. The financial report reflects that one team used P9,110 for fuel and meals on a mobilisation trip.

There is also a deduction for the chairman's accommodation which is reflected as P760, bringing the total used for meals and transport to P8,350 a figure which some members have described as 'ridiculous'.

Another financial statement, on the other hand, shows that the second team used P11,560, some of which is unaccounted for.  The reason written on the report for why the team couldn't present evidence of what they used the money for is that they lost the relevant receipts.

Tsholofelo Mogotsi's team financial statements however reflects that they used P2,160 on the mobilisation trips, but apparently none of the trips reflected on the report happened as far as other members of Mogotsi's team are concerned. Mogotsi is beleived to have pocketed the money which should have been used by the team.

Reached for comment, NYEC treasurer, Tuelo Metseyabeng, denied allegations of embezzlement of funds in the party. He said so far only one member from Mogotsi's team has complained that money is being used carelessly by their leader.

Although Metseyabeng refused to reveal the name of the person, he has called for a meeting between the complainant and Mogotsi to settle their differences.

Metseyabeng further said that the financial report that Mmegi reporters saw must have been altered as some of the figures were new to his ears.

'The report is not complete as there is a detailed report that reflects everything the money were used for. I however cannot give reporters of this kind of information as it is against our policies,' he said.

The NYEC has been divided into four teams which have been assigned the task of mobilising the youth in different regions around the country.
