Kutlwano, Mafolofolo in Capital Motors semis

The other semi-finalists will be decided when Diphatsa face BDF VI in an all-army affair, while Kalavango clash with Spartans of Selebi-Phikwe.

The semis will be played on September 28 at Thebephatshwa.

At the group stage over the weekend, Diphatsa and Kalavango put up impressive performances on Saturday but faltered on Sunday to surrender top spots in their respective pools. Spartans won two games while BDF VI should consider themselves lucky to still be in the running after a single victory. BDF VI and Dynamites both won one game but the military side sailed through on set difference. Chobe pulled out of the competition, leaving 10 teams to do battle for the last four.

Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) vice-president (technical), George Keotsene said Chobe's failure to turn-up did not affect the competition schedule as the club had given advance notice. Chobe also failed to send a team for the men's competition the previous weekend and Keotsene said this is a cause for concern.

He said they will engage the clubs to find out the problem. He said he was impressed with the level of competition and the dominance of giants such as Kutlwano and Mafolofolo is being checked after promising displays from Diphatsa, Spartans and BDF VI.

However, Keotsene expressed concern at the parallel constituency league. He said the league is affecting the game as most players prefer the government-sponsored competition because it has financial rewards. He said they intend to engage relevant authorities to see how the issue could be resolved. Spartans' coach, Victor Bolotsang decried the introduction of constituency league saying it is detrimental to the game. The league is the brain-child of President Ian Khama.
