Chaka Chaka sets Botswana Craft ablaze

Chaka Chaka, who was performing together with Johnny Mokhali of 'Lorato ka mogala' fame did not disappoint as she gave revellers exactly what they expected.

A number of local artists also took part in the concert as curtain raisers to the big show. First to take to the stage was Kabo Leburu with his mesmerizing guitar playing antics. The women of the jazz were the next on the line-up. However, revellers did not show much interest when local groups were performing. The party started when Johnny Mokhali came onto the stage but revellers were still not moved when he sang one song from his latest album. It looked like most attendees preferred Johnny's old songs.

Many in the audience only left their seats when he sang the song that has won him many people's hearts, Lorato ka Mogala. Revellers burst into the chorus 'Ke ne ke tshameka' as soon as the tune of the song boomed from the music system.

At this point many of them in fact moved next to the stage just to get a closer view of the pint-sized singer. It was also songs like 'Ha letsatsi le dikela' that won the hearts of many.

But the moment that everybody had been waiting for finally arrived when the Princess of Africa came to the stage. But just like Mokhali until she sang her second song, revellers seemed less interested. The attendants did not seem to appreciate her first offing, Unity.

Chaka Chaka also sang other artists' songs and her second song was You make me feel like a natural woman. It was then that she seemed to speak many attendees' language as they joined in the singing. From then onwards she had revellers eating from her palm as she sang songs from her oldest albums. Revellers could not help but sing along prompting an impressed Chaka Chaka to pause and listen to revellers. Then the Princess of Africa took music lovers down memory lane - to her youthful days when she sang O mqomboti in which she talks about traditional beer. Many remembered how beautiful she just looked in the video when she sang the song. Other songs that she sang included I'm in love with a DJ; Mr DJ; Motherland and Makhoti.
