Makgalemele denies receiving P1.5m from BDP

In an interview with Mmegi, Makgalemele refuted claims that he was given the fat cheque by some high-ranking BDP officials to clear his debts.

'I wish I could have that kind of money. I have never been at peace with myself with the decision I took to leave the BDP. This has nothing to do with money. I just met and talked with Mpho Moruakgomo (BDP activist) and MP Prince Maele and decided to come back,' he said.

He dismissed talk that he was bought as cheap propaganda by mischievous politicians. Maele confirmed that he was involved in recruiting Makgalemele but would not give any details saying he prefers to see this reporter, 'because I don't know whom I am talking to. You might not even be the journalist you claim to be,' he said.  For his part Moruakgomo, a councillor in Kgatleng district council, said no money was used to lure the legislator back to the BDP fold. 'Not even a cup of coffee. Makgalemele who has been my friend for a very long time is a principled man who has a good heart. He will not sell his soul. We don't buy people,' he said.  However a high-ranking BMD official has declared that Makgalemele received a hefty P1.5 million cheque.

He also said the rumour doing the rounds that the BDP is on a recruiting drive using money to lure politicians, especially MPs in the opposition is true.
