Marumo joins Bay United

The Port Elizabeth outfit wrapped up its pre-season preparations in Benoni last week for the NFD league kick-off this weekend. The gifted shot-stopper left for Port Elizabeth, South Africa yesterday afternoon to link up with Bay United.

Zebras' coach, Stanley Tshosane said they hope he would return after the weekend to join the national team to prepare for the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Togo on September 4.

'He has signed for Bay United and he leaves this afternoon (yesterday) but we are hoping that he will be back to join the rest of the national team players.

He has done well in the national team and he is fit to play in South Africa,' Tshosane said.

Marumo put up a five-star performance when the Zebras drew with Malawi recently. He has only conceded one goal in the three Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers that the national team has played.

Bay United coach, David Bright confirmed to an online South African publication, Kick Off that they had signed the goalkeeper.

'It is true that one of the big teams in South Africa had put in an offer for him but unfortunately for them, he had already signed with us. He is a national team goalkeeper and also played in the Premier League in Egypt and will definitely bring a wealth of experience to the club,' he said.

Mamelodi Sundowns were reportedly keen to lure Marumo to Chloorkop but the veteran custodian had already put pen to paper at Umlilo. Sundowns saw him playing for Bay United during a friendly game against Mpumalanga Black Aces recently.

Zebras' second choice goalkeeper, Noah Maposa and Pontsho Moloi had a stint with Bay United last season.Marumo played for Haras El Hodoud in the Egyptian Premier League last season before returning home after the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) banned foreign goalkeepers from playing in the domestic league.
