Over 1,800 graduate from Limkokwing

Speaking at the event, Gaborone West MP, Robert Masitara, said that this is the largest group of graduates at one ceremony in the 20-year history of Limkokwing University worldwide.

He said the opening of the institution has been timely as it coincided with  government plans to increase student participation at tertiary level, from the seven percent to 17 percent by 2016.

'These were students who were a part of the huge backlog of senior secondary school graduates with good grades.

Most of them were stranded because they could not pursue higher education owing to lack of adequate vacancies in existing institutions in the country and the rising costs of sending students to study overseas limited the number that could be dispatched,' Masitara said adding that the students bring the kind of skills that Botswana need to strength its economy in the face of new challenges in the global market place.

In his speech, Dato Fajura Juffa Binti Mohd Mustafa Kamala, said: 'Nothing will make me happier than to everyone of you become the people other people would want to emulate, to see you sparkle like the precious stone that this country is famous for.  'You have no idea of how much it means to me to see you graduate today. I am truly proud of you'.
