Impressive night of culture at Ditshupo

Women dressed exquisitely in traditional outfits, leteisi for Batswana women and beaded jewellery.  Nigerians and Ghanaians also coloured the night with their multi-printed dresses, accompanied by the beautiful headpieces for women and men in their robes.

The gele as the headpiece is called in the Yoruba culture is a very important part of the women's attire in Nigeria. When unfolded, it usually looks like a small plain rectangular sheet. Interestingly, it can be folded or tied in a variety of ways.

Models walked the ramp to showcase beautiful outfits from countries like Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana and Botswana.  Africa is a storehouse of elegant fashion and beauty.

It was not all about fashion, as culture is embodied in many forms.

Traditional dishes from various countries were served at the fair.  Chicken and Potato Korma from India was one of the delicious dishes of the night.  Rachel David, said the dish is one of her favourites and people from other cultures can try it because it is both vegetable and non-vegetable.

'This is a chance for us to give India to the world. Though different people differ in what they eat, food is one of the things that connect the world,' she said.

Sedibeng Choral Music left the audience in laughter as the enormous energy combined with comic faces made their presentation very amusing.  There were Chinese Kung Fu and Salsa dancers whose beautiful attire together with body movements produced a fantastic rhythmic pattern.

Renowned Molepolole folk singer, Malefo Mokha, popularly known as 'Stampore', and Solomon Monyame - 'Solo B' staged a sizzling performance.  The folk singer thrilled the crowd, which danced to the tune of his famous 'Re Batswana' as Botswana and the rest of the world celebrated culture.
