No hard feelings

Speaking at a Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) rally to launch him in Lobatse over the weekend, Modubule said his is a battle for liberation and not the BNF or its activists. There has been disappointment among some BNF supporters after Modubule, who tried to re-join the party without success went to the newly formed BMD. The MP said that as the BMD, their intention is to see a united opposition ousting the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) from power.

'Polotiki ya tontokwane e hedile. I will be happy to see the BNF, Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Botswana Peoples Party (BPP) and BMD sharing the same platform in rallies. These people at the top table are not BDP members. They used to speak the language of BDP but now they speak the language of opposition. We want to rebuild this nation. Not where people have to be asleep by 10pm,' he said. He told his constituents that they should note that he is still the same politician they voted for as an independent candidate. 'Nothing has changed. It is just the time and colours. I am the same Modubule you voted for, the one who represents workers' plight, and other concerns of the people,' he said.

At the same rally, BMD interim chairman Gomolemo Motswaledi said contrary to what critics say that the party is regressing, it is growing and continues to receive new members. At the rally, Motswaledi paraded former auditor-general Pelonomi Namogang, former district commissioners Richard Oaitse, Kgosikhumo Gofamodimo and Matilda Kgabo as new BMD members. Others included retired army brigadier, Iphemeleng Kgokgothwane, a former BDP activist.

Meanwhile BMD MPs Odirile Motlhale, Botsalo Ntuane, Winter Mmolotsi and Gilbert Mangole rubbished claims that some of them will cross back to the BDP just like Phillip Makgalemele and Patrick Masimolole did. Motlhale who has been rumoured to be next on the list vehemently denied that he wants to quit the party. 'Gatwe ko BDP ba ala ba ntora bosigo, ba re ke a boa. I am not going back there. I am quite free here and enjoy peace, which was non-existent there. I can't put back on the BDP chains. No way,' he said.
