Capital Motors volleyball tourney starts

The top two teams will advance to the quarterfinals in a fortnight. BDF VI are expected to sail through in the group that includes lightweights, Tanian, Spartans and Difofane.

In Pool B, last year's runners-up Kutlwano are favoured to make it to the quarterfinals. They face Spiking Stars, Kalavango and Itekeng. Mafolofolo, Magstimela, Chobe and Victory Seekers will do battle in Pool C, while Diphatsa, Prisons, Desert Kings and Police make up Pool D. BDF VI, Spartans, Kutlwano, Kalavango, Mafolofolo, Itekeng, Diphatsa and Police start as favourites to make it to the quarterfinals. BDF VI coach, Selebatso Mabutho said although his side has been hit by injuries, they are well prepared for the tournament.

He acknowledged that it would be a mammoth task to retain the title.

'When you go out to fight, you only do so with one mission - of winning,' he said. He said his side has not made any special preparations but the players are in good shape since the league is underway.

Kutlwano coach, Isaac Samuel said his team narrowly lost to BDF VI in last year's final, but this time, they want to claim the title.

He said the fact his side lost many serves made the difference in the final.

Samuel said they are working to improve their serve.

He has advised his players to float the ball when serving rather than to jump-serve. The women's competition starts in Gaborone next weekend.

Winners in both the women and men categories will receive P10,000 while runners-up take home P6,000.
