The BDP NYEC funds: Setting the record straight

The reporter, a Nelson Direng, apparently claims to be in possession of a financial report for the period of July-August.  The BDP NYEC wishes to state from the onset that, NYEC is committed to preparing quarterly financial reports to be presented to the Central Committee by the NYEC Chairman.  We can confirm on the afternoon August 11 NYEC sat to discuss amongst other things a DRAFT Financial Report presented by the team Treasurer.

The initial disbursement of P 9,100  was used by four NYEC mobilisation teams to travel to various regions throughout the country, on the weekend of July 09 - 11 2010, and not what the reporter claims; that the 'financial report indicates that one team used P 9,110 for fuel and meals on a mobilisation trip.'

In addition, only P 333 was spent on the NYEC Chairman's accommodation, which is accounted for and can be confirmed.  It is unfortunate the article puts an inflated accommodation figure at P 760.

The reporter goes further to discuss another P11, 560, which as alleged remains unaccounted for.  It should be noted that even when the reporter was assured that the team is to meet with the treasurer to reconcile expenses the reporter chose to disregard this information.

The allegation levelled against Tsholofelo Mogotsi, who leads a group of four individuals. is also completely false.  The group led by Mogotsi has spent the P2,160 in four different trips to the Tsamaya Star Rally, Ramotswa, Gaborone and Molepolole.  The draft report clearly states all pertinent receipts were produced.

The said July-August financial report cannot be referred to as a quarterly financial report, but a working report, which was being discussed as a ZERO DRAFT.  It is of great concern that a Mmegi reporter, claims to be in possession of a confidential internal Party document, which was prepared for the NYEC meeting.

At this point, we do not know how the said document could have reached the hands of the Mmegi reporter in question.  We believe that this is an internal disciplinary matter worthy of an investigation that will ensue immediately. Therefore, to say that the funds were misused or have failed to be accounted for is completely false.
