The player was stabbed at Gaborone West on Friday evening with a knife and was later admitted at Princess Marina Hospital before he passed on, Saturday night.

Her sister Nombulelo Tlhabaki confirmed the death of the 21-year-old player.

“On Friday evening around six he was stabbed with a knife and he was admitted at Marina. Yesterday night (Saturday) he was confirmed dead,” she said.

As of yesterday morning, the family had not made funeral arrangements but the player would be buried at Bokaa ward in his home village, Mahalapye.

Hotspurs secretary, Kebonye Tau said the club woke to the sad news on Sunday morning. He said the player was out of the team with an ankle injury.

He said in the past week the player had requested to visit a family member in Gaborone.

“He left on Tuesday to visit his sister and on Friday we received the news that he was stabbed at G-west. Last night, (Saturday) we received the shocking news that he passed on at the hospital.”

“He had light training during the pre-season, but was later given a four weeks rest with a persisting ankle injury.”

Khalipha joined Hotspurs in 2013 while a form two student at Parwe Junior School in Mahalapye.

A year later he broke into the first team and became the number one keeper in the team’s first season in the First Division.

The keeper went for trials with Jwaneng Galaxy in the off-season that did not materialise.

He caught the eyes of Flamingo Santos but a move to the youthful Gabane side failed because of the nagging injury. “He could have signed for Santos, but because of the injury the move failed,” Tau said.
