The supermodel who has been based in Asia has relocated to Cape Town, South Africa where she is working on a number of modeling gigs such as TV commercials for Edgars, Nestle and recently appeared on a fashion programme on SABC 3 TV channel.

“I recently just got back to Cape Town. I got signed to one of the top model agencies in South Africa called Twenty-model management. I have been with them since July his year and have been so busy,” the 29-year-old Machinya told Arts & Culture in an interview.   Through the agency she has managed to score gigs with international brands and they are also in charge of getting her bookings and audition calls. The model is confident that she will score more gigs that will see her appear more on TV screens around the continent.

“I’m getting so many work opportunities across the industry, it’s also interesting to see the many different hats and roles that I am taking on. I’m certainly enjoying TV more right now so who knows just how far my wings will spread this season.”

Machinya is not a stranger in international modelling and acting industry, she has appeared on a number of TV commercials for brands such as Airtel Nigeria, German toothpaste LIDI and Foschini group sportswear. She has also appeared on different music videos for international acts such as P Square.

Prior to her return to Cape Town in July this year where she launched her international career, Machinya had been based in Asia where she was roving in different countries working as a model.

“Cape Town is where my career started to be honest so this is my second home so to speak, this is where my mother agency is based and even though I do travel from time to time I still come back here. At the moment it’s a new season here and thus my agency requires me to be here for a few months so that I can travel again and head back to Asia,” she said.

Apart from modelling and acting she has branched into being a voice over artist, a new career she just ventured into.

With her international experience Machinya hosted a workshop in Gaborone early this year where she invited another international model and actress Roxane Kalie. The two conducted a number of sessions with young and aspiring models.

She is looking forward to conducting more workshops around the country.

Advising young girls who want to establish a professional modelling career just like her Machinya said, “firstly know exactly what you want to do, the type of modeling you would like to do and take time each and everyday to research about it. This industry is tough, its very fast paced and cut throat. Looks and beauty alone are just not enough these days. Have something that sets you apart from all the hundreds of thousand other models across the world”.
