Mascom provided netball kit, sneakers with socks, towels, first aid kit, goodie bag with Huawei Y3 phone and transport.

Speaking during the sponsorship hand over, Mascom chief communications and public relations officer, Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego said they are glad to be part of sport development in Botswana especially now that the support has shifted to people living with disabilities. She said the Botswana Deaf Association approached them years ago as they prepared for the tournament.

“As Mascom, as much as we take sport serious, this was the easiest decision to make as we have not done much with supporting people living with disabilities in sport.

The contribution covers transport to South Africa and from,” Lebotse-Sebego said. She said they believe that the support would encourage people living with disability to come out and not shy away from getting actively involved in sports and also to motivate the netball team throughout the tournament.

The Botswana Deaf Sports Federation (BDSF) was formed in 2011 mainly to promote sports for the deaf and unite deaf people from diverse cultures in Botswana.

The deaf netball team leader, Shirley Keoagile could not hide her excitement over the Mascom support.

She said the participation will propel more engagement of this magnitude with other countries across the world since other countries have been pushing them to be actively involved in competitions.

“The sponsorship means a lot to us, because this is what we have been all looking for to make sure that our athletes feel appreciated in society. However, we urge other stakeholders to listen to us when we need support,” she said.
