Morapedi led the team in their season opener against Gaborone United (GU) on Sunday in the absence of Mafu. He was assisted by former team captain Pontsho Moloi.

The Zimbabwean mentor has been on ‘strike’ as the club reportedly owes him over P200,000 from the previous season. Speaking to journalists after his side’s one all draw against GU, Morapedi who is in his second tenure as an assistant coach at the club did not hide his ambitions but admitted that he has to prove himself first.

“Coaches are judged on results. Maybe if the results are good, I might be given the job. I have always wanted it (head coach’s post), but remember in the market what you want is not what you get,” he said.

The former national Under-20 coach further said the off-field issues at the club have affected the team, as they have lost some key players including Senatla Molefe and Jerome Ramatlhakwana.

He however said his technical team had to motivate the players ahead of the weekend’s big clash in order to get results.

“It is easy for me (to motivate the players) as I am a parent. I always encourage my children to correct their mistakes. We only have a handful of players who were with us in the past season. So it was always going to be difficult, this was the first game, we are trying to build the team and get results at the same time. I would not complain much about the draw,” he said.

In other league games, defending champions, Township Rollers beat Tafic 2-1 at the Francistown Sports Complex while Tendai Nyumasi’s late penalty proved to be the difference as Orapa United emerged 3-2 winners over Uniao Flamingo Santos. Newly promoted Sharps Shooting Stars bagged their first elite football point as they held Extension Gunners to a goalless draw while BDF XI went off to a good start as they thumped Security Systems 3-0. Miscellaneous new coach, Daniel Nare lost his first game at the club as his side went down by a single goal to Black Forest while Police XI beat Gilport Lions with the same score line. At the far north, last season top goal scorer, Terence Mandaza opened his scoring account for his new side, Jwaneng Galaxy as they beat Sankoyo Bush Bucks 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
