The new deal is over three seasons, with P13 million set aside per year. The sponsorship represents a 38% increase from the previous P30 million deal of the past three seasons.

The prize money has increased by 15% from the previous deal of P4 million to P4.6 million. BPL has been in partnership with BTC for the past nine years.

Clubs will receive P35,000 per month for eight months in grants to help run their affairs.

Furthermore the man of the match award winner who previously received P1,000 BTC mobile airtime, will now receive the cash equivalent and P200 airtime.

Speaking at the sponsorship launch at the Francistown Sports Complex before the TAFIC and Township Rollers game, BTC managing director, Anthony Masunga said over and above the sponsorship they are also sponsoring the creation of a BTC Charity Cup.

Masunga said with the multi-million cash injection, his organisation expects to see return on investment. He said BTC has chosen football as a launch pad to promote their products and services uptake while growing the game.

“The partnership must be reciprocal. As we help football to grow, football must also help us to grow our market share and increase revenue. The football fraternity must reciprocate by using BTC products and services,” Masunga said.

BFA president, Mclean Letshwiti welcomed the sponsorship. He appealed to all stakeholders of the local football to protect and grow the sponsorship.

“This is the biggest sponsorship ever in the country and I must extend my gratitude to BTCL for seeing it fit to sponsor football,” he said. “Sponsorship today is no longer charity, it is an investment and BTCL must benefit from their commitment.

“They have created for us a conducive environment for investment and we must drive that investment. We must work together to build an attractive brand that will do much more than this tomorrow.”
