The activities were jointly held by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Aquafresh with the main objective of developing healthcare products and strengthening stakeholder relationships that contribute towards greater awareness of oral hygiene and dental care.

The activities aimed to address the following objectives:

• To educate and inform parents about the importance of adopting a regular oral health habit within their families; and

• To encourage children to brush their teeth twice a day.

These activities come as part of GSK’s Oral Health Schools Intervention programme, where children and parents are sensitised on oral hygiene.

The intervention comes in proud partnership with Botswana’s Ministry of Health & Wellness. Collectively, the activations this week engaged over 1,000 students from as young as five years to pre teen.

As part of the initiative, each school received an Aquafresh branded name board establishing the schools’ relationship with Aquafresh for the community to see and appreciate.

Students and teachers were sensitised on a variety of factors concerning oral hygiene including food groups that are good for gums and teeth, as well as on site demonstrations of how to brush teeth.

In addition, parents and children were taught about key ingredients that make for a quality toothpaste.

The activities also included a wonderful variety of performances by the students including modern and traditional poems, dance and songs.

Guests of honour at Gasiko and Magotlhwane Primary Schools respectively included Thebelo Pabanga and Bokamoso Makole both from Dafin Sales and Mothusi Gaobolelwe and Sinah Galeboe both from the Ministry of Health & Wellness
