BSD silent on suspension of corrupt boss

However, the organisation has resolved not to speak to the media on the court case.

Although the members of the BSD board differed on the matter, Mmegi learnt that they reached a consensus to suspend her, after majority felt that the issue would tarnish the name of the society and their sponsors might be discouraged to continue funding them if action was not taken.

The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) investigated her and found out that between November and December 2007 in Gaborone, she stole two cheques amounting to P2, 383 belonging to her employer, the BSD by converting the said cheques into her personal use. The cheques came into her possession by virtue of her employment. BSD employees have on numerous occasions complained of maladministration by the leadership, leading to a strike at some point. Mmegi learnt that salaries could not be paid and fingers were pointing at Mokgosi amongst others as possible culprits who were alleged to misuse donor funds.

The issue of maladministration once cropped up again in 2014 when an audit report was done by Ministry of Education and Skills Development, which included falsification of records, utilisation of funds for items initially not meant for the Society and lack of cooperation from the centre’s management to avail data needed for audit. The Ministry is the one sponsoring the school and other programmes.

Programmes director Kabelo Seadimo, who is the acting executive director, was said to be away on a trip by the time of going to print.

An effort to get comment from Kerebotswe Khulela was not successful, as she was not answering her mobile phone. Khulela had last week promised to call Mmegi to provide an answer as to why Mokgosi had not been suspended from duty by last week Thursday, but in vain.

This publication has learnt that the board has taken a resolution that they would only speak to the media when the matter has been concluded at the courts.
