The Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) chief executive officer, Falcon Sedimo said the aim of Re Ba Bona Ha is to nurture talent and promote sports development amongst  promising stars.

He added that excellence is a habit and it needs regularity of effort.

Sedimo said Jwaneng has good rugby grounds courtesy of Debswana Jwaneng Mine and it is upon the administrators and players to put them into good use.

He acknowledged stakeholders, especially Debswana, for investing in the future stars of the sport.

Jwaneng Mine’s services manager, Isaac Tswetla also acknowledged the importance of investing in sports development which in overall entails nurturing globally competitive players.

“Our company has so far invested P6.5 million towards the Re Ba Bona Ha programme and in 2018 we will have spent P9.5 million. Sports associations have grown from four to 12 over the years and we are proud to be associated with such,” Tswetla said.

He further noted that Debswana would continue to invest in sports development including the First Division League and encourage its employees to participate in sports by availing sporting facilities, finance and transport.

“We have opened our facilities for the community to use and we are disappointed that they are under-utilised. We are therefore pleading with you to host international games in Jwaneng to utilise such facilities and work with Council to rectify stringent measures that make acquiring accommodations for the teams difficult.”

Meanwhile, BNSC handed over rugby equipment worth P21,000 to the Jwaneng Centre with the town’s deputy mayor, Olga Ditsie reiterating their dream to turn the mining town towards sports tourism.

She said South Africa is bidding to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup and Botswana should at least benchmark.
