Dinatshana man rapes woman three times

Shimane Mokgatla, 32, is alleged to have forcefully had sexual intercourse with his victim twice in Pitsane village on the evening of July 27 and once in Dinatshana village on the morning of July 28.  Mokgatla is from Dinatshana.

Although he was granted bail of P3,000, Mokgatla appeared before magistrate William Modise pleading with the court to reduce the amount to P1,000.

“I plead with court to substitute my initial cash bail amount to at least P1,000 since I am unemployed. There is no where I can get such an amount of money.  I promise the court that I will abide by all the other set conditions,” he said.

However, state prosecutor, Sub Inspector Dumani Chakasala of Ramatlabama Police Station said the court had already been lenient on Mokgatla by granting him bail.

“In such offences, where an accused faces three counts of rape, the cash bail amounts are always high and actually, the P3,000 cash bail was a way of showing mercy,” he said.

Magistrate Modise said it was impossible to reduce the cash amount from P3,000 when the accused was facing three counts of rape. He ordered the case to return for mention on October 9.

Meanwhile, the case in which a Ramotswa woman faces a charge of fatally stabbing her boyfriend, has stalled as the State is yet to receive crucial evidence from forensic pathologists.

Nthabiseng Modise is accused of stabbing her then boyfriend, Gaboutlwelwe Asele to death, after accusing him of infidelity. The incident occurred in the early hours of May 26, 2017 when Asele allegedly received a text message on his phone. He died the following day at Goodhope Primary Hospital.

Yesterday, prosecutor in the case, Chakasala said while investigations were advanced, crucial evidence such as the post mortem reports had not yet been availed.

“We are hopeful that we will receive these soon and hand the case to the DPP prosecutors,” he told the court.

The case has been set down for mention on December 4.
