In an interview with Showbiz, one of the pageants organisers, Donald Buthe, he said 12 contestants would be battling it out for the crown on the day.

He said the pageantry that has been running for five years now is open to young, beautiful and intelligent Bakwena women aged between 16 and 30 years.

“This pageant aims to empower young women to stand out in the community and be our future leaders. It helps boost their self-confidence and inspire them to be independent,” he said.

He added that even though they did not have sponsors except for Rocklane Lodge, they wanted to grow the pageant and expand it to Miss Kweneng 2017.

He said top three winners from all Kweneng district villages such as Miss Molepolole, Miss Gabane, Miss Letlhakeng, Miss Mogoditshane, Miss Lentsweletau and other surrounding villages would battle for Miss Kweneng crown.

“I want Miss Molepolole to attract more sponsors because I want to take it to another level. We are going to work hard to ensure that next year the brand would have grown that is why we have invited different dignitaries and organisations to this year’s beauty pageant so that they can see our capabilities,” he said.

He explained that they had invited different dignitaries such as Kgosi Kgari Sechele III, Tebelopele management and representatives from the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture Development and others.

He pointed out that Miss Molepolole 2016 queen Pamela Kesebonye was working on a project that aimed to teach and empower young women from a tender age on skills and requirements needed in beauty pageants industry.

He added that Kesebonye had also opened a club that teaches girls from primary schools and other stakeholders about beauty pageants.

Miss Molepolole 2017 grand finale will start at 6pm. The local traditional music group Mmurubele is expected to treat the audience with endless music and song. Standard tickets would be sold at P100 and P250 for a VIP ticket.
