The pageant started in 2015 and this year, it will be held on Saturday at Ledingwana Guest House along A1 road just after Rasesa by Malotwana junction.

According to the event founder and coordinator Lebopo Bulayani, the objective of the pageant is to empower a girl child through life skills development and trainings.

“The third Annual Miss Independence Kgatleng also aims to encourage the girl child to have significant contributions in the development of their communities.

Our first queen, Michelle Motshegwe diligently carried out her duties and projects. One of her major projects was the donation of food hampers to the less-privileged and doing motivational talks in schools,” she said. She added that their 2016 queen Tshepo El Nthaga walked swiftly in the path and her project was to adopt less-privileged students through the help of guidance teachers. She explained that Nthaga tutored the students for better results and a better future.

Miss Independence Kgatleng 2016 also once donated to DRM pediatric ward and donated school uniforms to Lady Mitchson and Kgafela Primary school pupils through the help of Thapelo Tsheole who is the chief executive officer at Botswana Stock Exchange.

The third queen will be crowned this Saturday and is expected to follow in the former and current queens’ footsteps. Eight ladies would be battling for the grand finale.

“Prior to the finale the pageant had a cultural boot camp which had speakers like the psychiatric counsellor Thandie Malebang, Kgomotso Ratsie (actress, director and writer) and Charity Kennedy who is the founder of Botswana Network of Mental Wellness,” she said.

Bulayani added that Kgosi Tshukudu of Malotwane also graced the boot camp and emphasised the importance of culture and self-respect for women. Speaking at the boot camp, Bulayani extended her gratitude to the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture Development for being their pillar ever since 2015.

This year’s sponsors includes Clicks Pharmacy, Distell Botswana, O3, Theshi Travel & Tours, Duma FM, Facility Beauty Spa, Neelo’s Wellness Club, Chip Chop Catering, Collegium, Nail Hub Ledingwana Guest House and Home Brew.

The audience will be treated to performances by local artists such as Mlesho, Serurubele, Mtizman, Luckymore, Yuntainment Drimaz, Excell Jaivais and many more. Kgatleng’s finest DJs, Thoko and MC Banks, will also keep the audience off their feet with their beautiful melodies.
