Groups of stand up comedians that have been participating in the annual President’s Day celebrations comedy competition have established the weekly stand up comedy gig that will be hosted every Friday night.

The event features an endless line up of comics such as Onza, Mawee, Roy, Killer T, Zozo, Mozakes and Nkapole to mention just a few.

“We established our comedy careers through the annual President’s Day celebrations comedy competition over the years.  This is now the time to unleash our prowess by hosting our own event in a bid to also market ourselves to potential clients that can book us to perform at different events,” Comedy Nights organiser, Onza said.

Apart from being a performance and marketing platform for established comics, Onza stated that this will also be an opportunity for upcoming comics to stage performances and sharpen their skills.

“Our dream is to see the event grow into something big that will have people laughing and the comedians getting gigs from cooperates, the government and international promoters after they have seen what we are capable of doing.” In the long run Onza said they are looking forward to establishing a TV show that will see Comedy Nights on screen.

Upcoming comedians who are interested in featuring on the event can attend it at the venue and talk to the organisers prior to the show. With the event making its debut, it does not have any special theme, as comedians will be staging their different acts.

Some of the comedians on the line up such as Mawee have been on bigger stages such as the Gaborone International Music Cultural (GIMC) week sharing the stage with big names such as Mr Ibu, David Kibuka and Dignash. The birth of Comedy Nights joins the few weekly stand up shows such as The Comedy Basement and Comedy Night hosted at Phakalane Golf Estate Hotel Resort.
