Tlagae says she has big shoes to fill

The freshly crowned and first time queen told Showbiz that her win has now elevated her confidence after she beat 19 other contestants on the night.

Describing her crowning moment, the Tourism Management student at Limkomkwing University said she was overwhelmed with joy because she managed to beat other competitors who were equally beautiful.

Tlagae said now that the crown is hers she has big shoes to fill, especially for someone who is new to pageantry. She said she only started showing interest in the field last year for the first time when she participated in Miss Kanye pageant and ended up winning the second princess title.

“I will now focus on a cultural talk show on Botswana Television,” she said. Tlagae said she has a lot of passion for culture and intends to raise awareness because the heritage and history of Botswana is slowly fading away and not many people are doing anything about it. She said besides the project she also wants to push three charity projects and give back to her community. She also said besides school she will focus on her reign as Miss Independence in order to leave a mark. 

“This title comes with a lot of responsibility and as the second queen I have to be the kind of queen people look up to.  I am the mirror image of the society and therefore I am required to handle myself in the right way,” she said.

She said compared to other titles, Miss Independence requires her to be the pillar and backbone of the society. The beauty queen said she has realised that dreams are too precious to sit on so she decided to let her talent shine.  She acknowledged that she faced tough competition right from the beginning when there were still 30 contestants. 

Tlagae said as she spent more time with the girls, she no longer saw them as competitors but family.  “We became friends and learnt a lot from each and worked together as a team,” she said. She also hailed the organisers of the show for being there for all of them from beginning to end.
