Murder suspect hands himself to the police

Urban police station commander, superintendent Obapotswe Moremi said the man was accompanied by his parents on Monday morning when he handed himself to the police. He was immediately taken into custody.

“Since Sunday the police have been searching for him to no avail but yesterday he voluntarily handed himself to the police and was detained on suspicion of murder,” Moremi said.

It is alleged that the suspect and his girlfriend had a misunderstanding at a local shebeen early Sunday morning and the suspect ended up beating his girlfriend. Moremi revealed that the deceased was trying to intervene to separate the fight when the suspect hit him with a bottle on the forehead causing a fatal injury.

“The suspect was assaulting her girlfriend and the deceased tried to separate them when he met his fate. It is alleged that the suspect hit him with a bottle on the forehead and he fell down. The deceased was sent to Princess Marina hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival,” Moremi said.

Mmegi has learnt that the suspect is a notorious well-known ex-convict at Bontleng but when asked about this claims, Moremi said there is no how at this point he could be sure whether the suspect is an ex-convict or not because investigations on the matter are still at initial stage.

He said that investigations on the matter are ongoing and then it’s only when they have checked his fingerprints that they can confirm if he has previous convictions or not.

Meanwhile, Moremi warned motorists against a spate of theft where culprits use remote jammers to target vehicles.

He said that usually after locking their cars and went into the shops when returning people are baffled because there will be no sign of a break in but their cars will be unlocked and their valuables stolen.

Moremi warned and pleaded with drivers to manually check if their doors are locked as he fears that the thieves might be using sophisticated technology to block remote.
