Speaking at the Kgatleng District Council Performance awards ceremony, whose theme was Achieving Excellence through innovation and recognition, last Friday, she said that this perception is no longer valid for a variety of reasons including increased customer awareness, higher political imperatives for performance and the need for improved service delivery.

She said that the public sector is increasingly required to redefine its role, strengthen its customer focus and build integrated service delivery models based on meeting customer needs more efficiently and effectively. Morake-Maripe said this would entail keeping the customer’s needs at the core of every decision.

“This can only be attained through highly satisfied, motivated, innovative employees and visionary leadership,” she said.

Innovation, she said, is the key to the public sector’s ability to continuously deliver on its customer promise because it plays a significant role in boosting productivity and this directly affects the effectiveness of public service delivery in terms of enhancing quality of service –  accessibility, timeliness and service levels and cost of service, leading finally to value for money.

Best Manager Award went to Chief Education Secretary, Mudongo Mudongo, Council Secretary Excellence Award went to Principal Accountant II, Kgomotso Masike and Chairperson’s Excellence Award went to Messenger, Keresepe Gaborekwe. Employee of the year was scooped by Quantity Surveyor I, Seabe Gabaitsewe who has been driving implementation of the Economic Stimulus Package (ESP) and Destitute Housing which has given Kgatleng District Council the edge over other local authorities.
