Molapise meets UDC conveners

Even though he confirmed the meeting, Molapise would not shed any light on what the agenda was, and who would be invited at the meeting.

Even though it is unclear, it is likely that Molapise wants to make his unhappiness known and possibly map a way forward.

Molapise has been sympathetic to Ndaba Gaolathe who recently formed the Alliance for Progressives (AP) and there have been indications that Molapise’s Botswana Peoples Party (BPP) could join forces with him.

Molapise and his party expressed displeasure at the way constituencies were allocated after they were given four while they wanted seven.

The BPP has been absent on deliberations made by the UDC in the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) debacle.

They are yet to submit four names of the people who are to represent them in the UDC NEC.

Molapise has been dragging his feet on UDC duties, but the UDC has always maintained that there was no rift between the BPP and the UDC. His party is of the view that the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) was not rightfully admitted in the UDC, a view shared with some in the AP.

Molapise recently told Mmegi that he would consider launching Tshimoyapula ward independent candidate, Chibuya Dabutha in the same election the UDC will be contesting in.

Dabutha is backed by the AP in the by-election. The BCP president and UDC vice president Dumelang Saleshando, insisted he knew nothing about the said meeting.

UDC spokesperson, Moeti Mohwasa could not be reached for a comment as his mobile phone rang unanswered.
