When they moved swiftly to send a letter to the Ndaba Gaolathe faction to talk about power-sharing, one would have assumed they  readily agreed with the verdict.

Things have, however, since taken a new twist with the committee refuting UDC president, Duma Boko’s assertions that there is no legitimate BMD leadership due to circumstances under which the elections were held.

Boko, in a radio interview yesterday made it clear that by stating that the environment was not conducive for a free and fair congress, it makes those voted there illegitimate.

However, the BMD, which has already written a letter seeking recognition by the UDC, are steadfast that they are part of the coalition and would be sending their representatives soon. “We have official and appropriate set channels of communication with the UDC and the BMD has never received any communication from the UDC suggesting that leadership, nor NEC is not legitimate. We are an institution guided and dictated to by our founding constitution which we abide by,” BMD spokesperson, Rasina Rasina said.

Rasina said they have in their possession communication emanating from the recent mediation that the UDC has been conducting. He said they appreciate such interventions when need arise.

He continued: “We have since communicated to the UDC our position on such a communication as per the deadline set by the UDC. The BMD remains a member of the UDC and it has always been a founding member.

The BMD continues to occupy four National Executive Committee seats in position of leadership at UDC we are only waiting for notification of the next meeting to send our representatives to the UDC meeting just as we have been appropriately taking part in all UDC activities”.
