Speaking to this publication last week, Boko explained that the UDC is in good terms with BOFEPUSU. He explained that the leadership of BOFEPUSU and UDC met recently and are planning a retreat together very soon “to strengthen the relationship”.

“You see folks, let me distinguish two levels of relationship. My relationship with you at personal level, whether we are fighting or we are not fighting, does not define the relationship between Mmegi as an organisation and the UDC or the BNF (Botswana National Front) as an organisation. We need to appreciate institutional interaction,” Boko explained.

He said at the institutional level, the trade union federation has declared its loyalty to the UDC adding that that loyalty remains intact.

“They have not pronounced anything to the contrary, saying now we have broken ranks with the UDC. We see eye-to-eye. The second is that seeing eye to eye does not mean we will not disagree.”

There have been reports that the relationship between the UDC and the BOFEPUSU has broken down irretrievably following Boko’s stance not to intervene in the Botswana Movement for Democracy’s (BMD) internal ructions. BOFEPUSU has made it public that they support the BMD faction led by Ndaba Gaolathe.  It is also speculated that when Gaolathe and company announce the formation of a new political movement on Wednesday, BOFEPUSU is likely to shift its allegiance to the new party.

Tomorrow, the UDC National Executive Committee will pronounce its verdict to the BMD factions led by Gaolathe and Sidney Pilane.

Last week, Boko said the UDC is going through a purification process.

“When we emerge from this, we will be more stronger, more pure and more united and understanding who the real enemies of this revolution are.

We will devise ways of dealing with them.

here is no doubt about that. This is a golden opportunity to prove to our people that we are resilient as the BNF did and as the UDC will.” Boko added that nothing is lost and he is scheduled to tour the country before the end of this year.
