BDP Mogoditshane Primaries Promises Drama

The party’s primary elections, which will be held on October 21, 2017, will pit former area Member of Parliament and Cabinet minister, Patrick Masimolole, Chester Otesitswe, Kgang Kgang and the youthful Tshepang Mabaila.

The campaign has intensified and competition amongst the contestants looks tight. Campaign teams for the four contestants have become visible with each team trying to sell their candidates.

Each team has formulated its on style of campaigning in order to attract the democrats.

Mogoditshane constituency has been a BDP stronghold until they lost it to opposition in the 2014 general elections when Sedirwa Kgoroba of Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) triumphed over Masimolole.

When The Monitor visited Mogoditshane, some democrats told them that the competition is amongst Kgang, Otesitswe and Mabaila.  “These three have strong campaign teams. Mabaila has been doing some donations in the area. Kgang and Otesitswe have been working closely with BDP members in the area. It is still early to tell but by the beginning of October it will be clear,” a source said.  However Kgang said, “my team is on the ground and it is doing well. My campaign is receiving a good reception from democrats”.  When contacted, Masimolole said he was in a party meeting and he did not know when it would end.  Masimolole was the MP for Mogoditshane from 2009 to 2014.

Efforts to get comments from Mabaila and Otesitswe were not successful.
