Softball secretary general suspended

BSA president, Tirelo Mukokomani served Gaosikelwe with the suspension letter last week. In the letter, Mukokomani accused Gaosikelwe of failing to carry out her responsibilities as secretary general.

“On numerous occasions, I have issued instructions to you to carry out your responsibilities as secretary general, which you failed or refused to do,” Mukokomani said. He said he had requested Gaosikelwe to ensure that the BSA affiliation fee to the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) is paid, but she failed to do so. He said as it stands, BSA is not a member of WBSC in good standing due to Gaosikelwe’s failure.  BSA eventually managed to pay the fees.

The letter states that the secretary general failed to give reasonable explanation for her failure. Gaosikelwe is said to have procured jackets valued at P32,000 without informing the BSA president as the accounting officer and she failed to give an explanation for her action.

“You failed to submit action items from the July general meeting that was held in Palapye, in order to allow relevant officers to execute their assignments. On September 13, I gave you instructions to find out and report to me why Bears Softball Club is alleged to have played in South Africa without permission,” the letter further reads.

Gaosikelwe confirmed receiving the letter, but has not taken any action as she had nothing to say.

“I just took it as it is. Those are petty things that I cannot waste my time responding to. I have been busy preparing for the upcoming WBSC conference while at the sametime I am being suspended,” she said in an interview.

Gaosikelwe said WBSC is communicating with her, but there is nothing she can do because she has been instructed not to be involved in softball business. She said even affiliates are seeking assistance from her, but there is nothing she can do. Gaosikelwe said she is not aware when the suspension would end. Mukokomani told Monitor Sport that the suspension will be determined by a hearing, whose date has not been set yet.
