Yesterday, UDC spokesperson, Moeti Mohwasa told journalists that the factions would then have to consider if the resolutions were amenable or not.

“Our intention is to see a vibrant and united BMD and not a divided one,” he said, adding that “the resolutions could help both factions and also stop the formation of a new party”.  He said the UDC National Executive Committee produced the resolutions after considering the submissions submitted recently by both factions.

Meanwhile, the UDC contracting partner, the Botswana National Front (BNF) plans conducting its primaries for the 2019 elections, this year and next year.

“The primaries will be held in October, November and early December. They will be held in Kweneng, Southern and South Central regions. The voters’ roll will be done by ward and constituency.

“If one does not follow the laid out procedures then one could be barred from contesting,” Mohwasa said.

Mohwasa, who is also the BNF secretary general, said wards and constituencies are expected to audit their membership to stop interlopers from penetrating the ranks.

He said the party’s central committee would visit other regions and constituencies to check on the progress in wards allocations. He said the central committee would then engage other partners to speed up the process.

“Of course there should be a deadline on when the ward allocations should end. Only constituencies where allocations are still being negotiated such as Lentsweletau/Mmopane and Moshupa/Manyana, will only go for primaries after the parties have agreed on them,” he said.
