Moatshe is due before a disciplinary hearing called by his former employer next Tuesday.

Yesterday, Business Botswana president, Leta Mosienyane told Mmegi that Moatshe wrote a letter of resignation saying he had secured alternative employment. The former CEO quit without responding to the allegations.

“It is true Moatshe resigned after we suspended him. We received two complaint letters from our employees who were alleging that the CEO sexually harassed them. “I wrote a letter to him to respond to the allegations and up until he resigned, he had not responded.

“The Finance and Management committee investigated the matter and they found that the CEO had a case to answer. They tried to show him the seriousness of the allegations, but no response was forthcoming from him.

“I understand that the whole of last week, he was on sick-leave. Yesterday, I wrote him a letter of suspension and this morning he brought a letter of resignation,” the president said.

Mosienyane said the employer organisation had labour procedures that the CEO had agreed to follow upon his appointment.

“Even though he has resigned, he still has to appear before the disciplinary committee. He also has to handover anything outstanding to Business Botswana.

“I would like him to have a fair hearing and we have to do this to protect the organisation,” he said.

Repeated efforts to reach Moatshe were fruitless yesterday, as he did not respond to calls to his mobile.

The former CEO joined Business Botswana in May 2016, coming from the Botswana International University of Science and Technology. He has a PhD and other high level qualifications as well as extensive experience at senior levels within the banking and finance sector.
