Obakeng releases Ho Tseba Modimo

The 34-year-old artist from Kanye has been in the local gospel music industry for a decade now. His new album, Ho Tseba Modimo, will be officially released next week Tuesday at Sedibeng Lodge where he will be hosting a listening session in the evening.
“We will officially release this album on September 19 as we will be preparing for the official launch whose the date and venue will later be announced. This album has 13 tracks namely; Ho Tseba Modimo (title track), Seteng Sediba, Ke A Leboga, Nkarabe featuring Vusi, Jehovah Jireh, O Ya Nkgoga, Tshepo Yaka featuring Ounah, Otshepile Mang? O ya Galalela, Kereste Yo Galaleng, Ke Utlwa Lerato, Re Thuse and Modimo Re Boka Wena,” he said.
Obakeng said he was signed under Rhuu’s Music Company owned by Reuben Lekoetje who is also his producer and manager. Having been raised in a Christian family, the young artist said his religion inspired him a lot to spread the gospel through music. He said he aims to change the face of the local gospel music as he has realised that a lot of people were not giving local gospel music the attention it deserves.
According to his manager and producer Lekoetje, the challenges that local gospel music artists face are lack of support from both the communities and the business people. He said it was because they saw music as a hobby than business or career.
“I would like to urge the local business community and Batswana at large to support local talent. To most artists, music is their bread and butter. Without support, many talented artists’ talents are killed because they also need to eat. They need support all the stakeholder’s support,” he noted. He also pointed out that there was less support amongst artists more especially in gospel music genre unlike in other music genres where there was unity and support.
“We will be selling our own merchandise being caps, T-Shirts and others. As a way of promoting our album, we will be having national and international tours. We currently have two bookings at South Africa and one in Zimbabwe. We are still in talks with other countries. Our fans can contact us if they want to buy our CDs, as we have not yet distributed them to any shops or street vendors. We are working on that,” he ended.
