The applications are open for both local and international performers as they can register online by accessing the Maitisong Festival on http://www.maitisong.org/festival/. The website has an application form that one can download.

“We have opened the application line. Once it is closed we will do the vetting then we communicate with the selected performers. We will also conduct auditions or presentations for the various acts selected to see the quality of the work they have so we can advice where they are lacking,” Maitisong Festival director Tefo Paya said.

Performers will be selected and communicated to around November and the maximum number of performers to be selected has not been announced yet.

Paya stated that the festival has improved on a number of aspects, as they will be ringing in new activities as from next year during its 31st anniversary.

“One interesting element we have introduced is the film festival within the festival. Film producers should also apply to showcase their content at the festival. I can’t say much on what we are introducing. We can only reveal it once the applications are closed and we know the number of acts that we have,” he said.

The application process for filmmakers is also the same for everyone. They are expected to present trailers or pitch their projects to a counsel upon being selected so they can also be advised on the quality of their work.

Maitisong Festival 2018 will also have a student camp whereby students from around the country will be camped in Gaborone attending workshops and performances during the festival.

With this year’s festival having failed to impress many people stating that its quality has downgraded, next year it is expected to improve and bring some classic performances and talent.

The festival was poorly marketed which led to some productions having a small number in the audience or some shows being cancelled which angered production directors. Paya has promised to bring a quality festival for the Maitisong Festival 2018.
